Well I had a shitty morning. Some twatwaffle stopped short in front of the truck in front of me and caused a chain reaction on my way to work. No one was hurt and there was no accident, but there couldve been an accident (sorry, crash). But I have to say, that limited slip that I have in my truck saved my life. If I didnt have an LSD My front bumper wouldve been inside the rear bumper of another truck. All that happened was these skids from my rear tires:
Then I started work and had to run some deliveries. So many idiots on the road and so many cops. Why do all the idiot drivers come out when it gets hot outside?

I bet you really could have avoided this if you had a short-throw shifter.

I don’t think a limited-slip-diff has anything to do with braking

And some Brembo caliper covers!

No, it has to do with traction. The road had millions of poorly patched potholes. I would have skidded more without the LSD

That too

Not just any, though. It has to be a Cobb.

Of course! Anything else would just be faking.

You may find yourself added to the legends such as that of the Cobb Short-throw shifter. Still, glad you’re safe and from the sound of it, nothing was borked.

A limited-slip diff only aids in propulsion, not in braking. The “limited-slip” refers to its ability to lock up and reroute power to the other wheel when one loses traction.

Oh, well then it seems I misunderstood how that works. You learn something new everyday I guess

No point in Oppo if we can’t learn from one another :)

Bumper or bumper cover?

I know youre making a joke, but Ive been legitimately pondering a hurst short throw shifter. My only reason for not pulling the trigger is Ive heard it causes the gearbox to over-pressurize and could blow the shifter plugs causing leaking because ford put the trans vent in the shifter bushing and the hurst eliminates the OEM Bushing.

It was a second gen tundra so bumper

Anti-lock brakes prevent your wheels from locking up and skidding, which could cause you to lose control and take longer to stop. An LSD prevents only one wheel from spinning when you hit the gas.

Its one of my new favorite words. Twatwaffle is only second to kerfuffle on my list of fun words to say

Well then, it seems my ABS works

I honestly didn't realize they put lsds in trucks... What with 4wd and lsd?

My ranger is RWD, but my rear end is a 3.55 LSD on a ford 8.8 so the power delivery is like nothing else

Was going to mention the same thing

Huh. THAT’S weird. Normally I heartily recommend short-throw shifters because they improve shifting feel by a ton, but yeah, that sounds like it’s maybe not great.

Ive seen people do some crazy things to eliavate the over-pressurization. One guy installed a second clutch resivoir with a baffle inside for venting

o.o
Could you explain to me how your differential helped shorten your braking distance?

Read the other replies, I misunderstood. Ive learned now

You call that shitty!?!!
Just a near crash? Really?
![]() 07/18/2015 at 09:42 |

That’s not how that works. When you hit the brakes, the force does not go through the diff. I promise you. Engine braking does, but not the wheel brakes.

Your transmission has a vent. It can't over pressurize. A short throw shifter decreases the length of your shift throw. Nothing else.

The m50d has the vent in the bushing. Putting a short throw shifter removes the oem bushing. Google “Hurst Shifter Ranger Leaking” nearly everyone that has installed one has had their trans leak

LSD doesn’t save lives unless it’s really good LSD and like you need it or something.

Drill a hole through the shroud. Problem solved.

Its not that simple but I understand your skepticism
